C-O-P-P-E-R….. What a fantastic material!!! It is one of those metals that has been around since the prehistoric era and is often overlooked. It is actually the first metal ever to be worked with by man. The very first. Due to its excellent electrical conductivity, copper is most often used for electrical equipment. Because copper corrodes so slowly, it can be successfully used for roofing, plumbing and cookware. Extremely versatile in it’s applications.

Copper is reportedly said to be an essential nutrient to the body and helps make red blood cells, supports the immune system and forms collagen which aids bones and tissues. Wearing copper bracelets for beneficial health reasons has been used for centuries as well.
Copper is a wonderful base metal used for currency in many countries and to fortify precious metal such as gold. When alloyed with gold, the result is a beautiful precious metal commonly known as Rose Gold or Pink Gold. As one can tell, copper is abundantly useful for so many things and looks beautiful while doing it!
But have you thought much about the metaphysical properties of copper? I’m not sure most people know about this or not. Because of its capabilities to conduct electricity and heat, it is believed to greatly intensify the wearer’s spiritual belief system. Copper is a HUGE facilitator of energies.
It is known for being a lucky and healing metal. Wrapping your most favorite crystals in copper will magnify the properties. Your quartz crystal will be made much more powerful when combined with copper. So if you would like to amplify your manifestations and send healing energy throughout the body, add some copper to your life!
When learning the trade of metal smithing and jewelry design, we are taught these skills working with copper in the beginning, as it is an inexpensive metal to work with. Practicing on copper is commonplace while improving techniques before we start working with precious metals. But I love copper as a medium just the same. I love the soft orange-pink hue of the metal….especially when given a brushed finish. As with pink gold, this color is the most flattering color metal on most skin tones.
But most of all, I love all the metaphysical properties associated with copper. While Jim and I were visiting his father in Kentucky, his dad lent me use of his studio and his tools to experiment with. He had quite a bit of copper material leftover from a project he finished with and said I could make use of it. I began work on a few pieces while I was there.

I sent a photo of this cuff and earrings I made to a friend of mine, who is also in the jewelry business. She loves the metaphysical properties associated with metal and gemstones as much as I do, and urged me to write a blog post about it. She also encouraged me to design an entire collection around copper and significant gemstones that might be helpful to others. New pieces will be added to my website www.LeslieHerbertJewelry.com under The Bohemian Collection and to several other social media sites.

We are living in such uncertain circumstances right now. If there is a special stone or crystal you would like implemented into a piece of copper jewelry, please let me know. I would love to create something special and unique that resonates with your spiritual beliefs.
